Speaker|Listener

In the re|engage curriculum, lesson 5 titled, “Communication” dives into something that has changed the course of our conversations with one another. Admittedly, when a conversation is going south quickly and tempers are beginning to flare, we often forget about this technique and lean more into wanting to be right or get our points across. So while we learned about the concept of “speaker|listener” years ago, we are still novices at putting it into motion consistently.

Ultimately, communication isn’t about seeking to be heard or understood, but about understanding what our spouse is trying to share. It takes intentionality with our words and our hearts. It requires us to orient our hearts towards James 1:19, “Let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak”. God gifted us 2 ears and 1 mouth…may we honor these gifts proportionally!
